10 Questions to Ask a DJ Before You Book

Do not book a DJ from a website and a vibe alone. Ask about experience, planning, MC work, music flexibility, equipment, backup plans and exactly what the quote includes.

1. Have you worked my type of event before?

A wedding, corporate event and club night require different skills. Ask for relevant experience.

2. How do you plan the music?

You want somebody who listens to your preferences but can still read the room live.

3. Do you MC?

If your event has introductions, speeches or formalities, make sure the DJ is comfortable on the microphone.

4. How do you handle requests?

A professional should know how to take useful requests without letting one guest hijack the event.

5. Do you carry clean edits?

This matters for corporate events, schools, family celebrations and many weddings.

6. What equipment is included?

Ask about sound, microphones, ceremony coverage, lighting and any extra zones you need.

7. What is your backup plan?

Equipment can fail. An experienced DJ plans for that before arriving.

8. How early do you arrive?

Setup should be complete before guests need the room.

9. What is included in the price?

Confirm planning, performance time, setup, breakdown, travel, MC service and add-ons.

10. Who is actually DJing my event?

Make sure the person you spoke with is the person showing up, or know exactly who will be there.
